Orchestra Auditions

Join Us!

The orchestra performs select concerts throughout the season, usually at Christmas and in the spring around Easter. We have three tiers of players, the first two tiers are auditioned. We welcome people of different faiths and backgrounds; you do not need to be a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to join the choir or orchestra.

Audition Preparation

We would like your audition to represent your best playing and give us a taste for how you will sound in our ensemble.  Please be prepared to play two scales of your choice, demonstrating your range and capacity for playing in a variety of keys.  We would also like to hear 2-3 minutes of a solo or other piece of music that represents your fluency on your instrument.  Finally, we would like to hear you play several passages from the Lamb of God oratorio.  We’ll take some time to work on these during the audition; don’t worry about getting them “right” the first time through, but be ready to respond to a conductor, to try different tempos and dynamics, and show us your best pitch and tone control.

We hope that you will be comfortable and excited for the audition.  We realize the very suggestion of auditions can be nerve wracking and competitive, but here we are honestly appreciating how well you play and gauging if you are a match for our current needs.
